A highly touted defender out of the Atlantic 10 Conference, Kyra Karfonta joins Aurora FC for her first season with the club in 2026.

Karfonta, originally from Michigan, has spent the last four seasons at the University of Dayton where she amassed 5,329 minutes played across 67 total appearances.

As a freshman in 2022, Karfonta appeared in five matches during her debut campaign. That season, she played 67 minutes, including a season high 23 minutes in conference play against Rhode Island.

In 2023, as a sophomore, she became a primary starter for the Flyers, getting the starting nod in all 20 appearances that year. She closed out her second collegiate season playing 1,680 minutes and tallying seven total points (3 goals, 1 assist). She notched her first career brace against conference foe George Mason in October of that season.

During her junior season in 2024, she again had a career best season, playing and starting in 20 matches, this time recording a career high five goals and six assists, which ranked sixth most in the A10 conference that season.

Her 16 total points during her penultimate college season were good enough for third most on the Dayton roster, propelling her to United Soccer Coaches’ All-East Region Third Team honors.

As a senior in 2025, Karfonta put together her best season to-date, playing and starting a career high 22 matches en route to playing a career best 1,962 minutes. She posted four goals that season, all of which were match winners, helping her land on the All-Atlantic 10 Conference First Team, a career first.

Karfonta also garnered A10 Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2025, the first time a Flyer has earned that award since the 2013 season.
