Minnesota Aurora’s second community ownership campaign closed on January 31, 2025 and after all the transactions were finalized, the team is releasing new ownership numbers.

  • $850,000 raised
  • 2,257 new owners
  • $340 average investment
  • 5,337 total owners
  • 50 states (plus DC and territories)
  • 19 countries – Australia, Belgium, Canada, Cayman Islands, Germany, France, India, Ireland, Malta, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Panama, Portugal, Singapore, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom

“We are overwhelmed by the support we received from around the world,” commented Aurora board chair Allie Schmidt. “We are thrilled to welcome all of our new owners and make them an integral part of Aurora.”

The WeFunder campaign’s success makes Minnesota Aurora the largest community owned independent women’s team in the United States. Money used from the sale of shares will be used to help Aurora continue its mission of making soccer accessible for all players. Aurora pays for player housing, US Soccer registration fees, try out costs if needed, rent at TCO Stadium and other business expenses. Sponsorship, ticketing and merchandise revenue helps defer a lot of expenses, but the WeFunder campaign ensures Aurora can continue to provide the best experience for players and fans.

Launched in 2021 as Minnesota Women’s Soccer by a group of Twin Cities volunteers, the team raised all of its initial funding through community ownership. Those community owners voted on the team name and brand and Minnesota Aurora was announced in February 2022.

Since then, Aurora has set attendance records in the USLW averaging over 5300 fans per game at its home TCO Stadium at Viking Lakes. The team has never lost a regular season match and has won the Heartland Division in each of the three seasons.
