After relocating the game indoors due to poor air quality, Minnesota Aurora defeats Green Bay to remain undefeated

Stillwater, Minn. – 

Minnesota Aurora is known for packing TCO Stadium with thousands of fans, but poor air quality forced the team to move its match to St. Croix Valley Recreation Center without spectators. Even without a true home field advantage, Aurora powered past the Green Bay Glory 5-0 with goals from Hannah Adler, Cat Rapp, Kylie Olsen, and Sophie French.

“We faced a lot of things today, a little adversity, but we were able to adapt and score one of our fastest goals of the season to get off to a really good start for the rest of the game,” said Head Coach Nicole Lukic. “Our level stayed consistent for the whole game and I was really happy with that.”

Minnesota Aurora started the scoring seventy five seconds into the match. Defensive midfielder Morgan Stone played the ball over the top to Makenzie Langdok to breeze past Green Bay’s defense. Langdok picked out Hannah Adler at the far back post to put Aurora up 1-0. 

Adler leads the team with seven goals on the season and is on pace to break Morgan Turner’s eight-goal single season record (2022).

Mariah Nguyen used her speed and footwork to power past the Glory’s defensive line and took the initial shot herself, sending it low and on frame. The ball bounced around before Adler collected and tipped it to Cat Rapp who buried it for the 2-0 lead. 

Langdok earned her second point of the match, assisting on Cat Rapp’s second goal in  the 26th minute for 3-0.

Second half substitute Kylie Olsen scored her first career goal for Aurora in the 47th minute. Defender and Star Tribune Star of the Game Abby Ostrem orchestrated the attack with a pass over the top of the defense, finding Cat Rapp. Rapp played her pass to the back post, and it trickled through traffic for Olsen to score. 

Green Bay pushed to avoid getting shut out and had their chance off a free kick on the edge of the 18-yard box. However, Amanda Poorbaugh came up with an important save to maintain the clean sheet in the 51st minute.

Sophie French closed out the game’s scoring by converting a penalty kick in the 75th minute. Ostrem built the attack from the defensive line, but when she pushed into the 18-yard box, she was tripped by a Glory defender. French stepped up to the spot and beat Green Bay goalkeeper Larissa Likes on the right. The goal is French’s second of the season, and Aurora is 3 for 3 on penalty kicks this year. 

Fans holding tickets for tonight’s match at TCO Stadium will receive a full refund.
