Aurora Continues Unblemished Record with 5-1 Victory Over Bavarian United SC

Uncategorized

EAGAN, Minn. – With a sold out crowd of 6,423 in the stands, Minnesota Aurora defeated Bavarian, 5-1 at TCO Stadium on Saturday night.

Bavarian saw the scoreboard first early on, taking a 1-0 lead during the second minute of the match with a goal from Haley Johnson.

“It was not the best way to start a game, giving up a goal and letting them run through us. I thought we abandoned our game plan for about 25 minutes. It rattled us a bit more than we would have liked,” said Head Coach Nicole Lukic. “Honestly, it was good for us to handle some adversity and come back fighting. It was a good win, a different win than we’ve seen in the past, so we’re happy about that.”

Minnesota Aurora answered with a goal of their own in the 29th minute. Addy Weichers served a corner into the 18-yard box. Defender Tianna Harris had the initial header to force Bavarian United’s Chloe Olson to make a save, but Maya Hansen redirected the rebound to Cat Rapp to tie the game 1-1. The goal is Rapp’s sixth of the season.

Maya Hansen ended her night with three points, scoring a goal of her own in the 33rd minute. Left back Abby Ostrem launched the ball to the right side of the field, finding Hansen in stride. Hansen juked the defender before slipping the ball past Chloe Olsen nearside.

In first half stoppage time, Morgan Stone picked out Mariah Nguyen’s head on a cross. Nguyen redirected the pass to Hannah Adler’s feet to end the half 3-1.

Nguyen scored her fifth goal of the 2023 season off a leading ball from Eli Rapp in the 64th minute to make the score 4-1.

Center back Tianna Harris scored the game’s fifth goal in the 76th minute off a corner kick from Addy Weichers. Harris has now scored four goals this season, and all of her goals have been assisted by Weichers from set pieces. Harris’ performance earned her Star Tribune’s Star of the Game.

Minnesota Aurora will head on the road for their next three games against RKC Third Coast (June 21), Bavarian United SC (June 24), and Green Bay Glory (June 29). Aurora will return home one last time during the regular season on July 1st at 4 p.m. CT as they host Chicago City SC. Schedule and ticket information can be found at mnaurora.com. Home matches are aired on Fox 9+.
