Aurora wraps up the preseason beating KC Current II
Aurora Defeats Kansas City Current II, 2-0, in Exhibition Match
EAGAN, Minn. – Minnesota Aurora FC defeated Kansas City Current II, 2-0, in an exhibition match on Sunday afternoon at TCO Stadium.
Despite a scoreless opening frame, Minnesota’s attack found multiple chances in the last minutes of the half. In the 43rd minute, Ava Westlund created an opportunity, taking a touch through traffic before firing a shot right into the Kansas City keeper. It bounced out in front of Mariah Nguyen, who took the chance but missed wide. Seconds later, Kunie Hirai drew a foul to give Helen Schaefer a chance on frame. Current keeper Evie Vitali made the save and both teams would go into the locker room tied, 0-0.
Five minutes into the second half, Westlund finished unassisted to take a 1-0 advantage.
At the 79th minute mark, Evelyn Calhoon played a ball down the middle to find Saige Wimes. On the breakaway, Wimes dribbled and shot the ball past the keeper to extend Aurora’s lead 2-0.
With each Aurora net minder seeing 30 minutes a piece, the goalkeeping unit kept a combined clean sheet, turning away five Kansas City shots on target.
Aurora’s home opener will return to the pitch this Thursday against Rochester FC. Kick off is slated for 7 p.m. CT and can be watched live on FOX9+ and Fox Local.
