Aurora’s Season Concludes at Central Conference Championship
Flint, Mich. – After going 12-0-0 in the regular season and winning their Round of 16 match, Minnesota Aurora’s season ended at the hands of Indy Eleven 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.
Aurora utilized their high press in the first half, but Indy Eleven created several scoring opportunities by playing overtop of Aurora’s defense to allow their strikers to run onto the ball. Minnesota Aurora’s goalkeeper, Amanda Poorbaugh, was up to the task to keep the score 0-0 going into the locker room at halftime.
Tensions ran high in the second half with fouls by both teams disrupting the game’s tempo. In the 57th minute, Sam Dewey redirected Indy Eleven’s free kick to score the only goal of the match.
“I’m really proud of this team, it just didn’t go our way today,” said Head Coach Nicole Lukic. “Overall, we’re really happy, they’re a fantastic group to work with every single day. To be honest, that’s the saddest part of this – that we have to wait a long time to get together again. We’ll be back for 2024.”
Despite the loss, Minnesota finished the season atop the Heartland Division and secured their second postseason appearance under the helm of Lukic.
