Minnesota Aurora Draws 1-1 Against Heartland Division Leader Chicago City SC

CHICAGO – Minnesota Aurora’s undefeated regular streak continues after a draw on the road against Chicago City SC. In her debut with Aurora, Utah State’s Kaylie Chambers scored the equalizer to end the match 1-1. 

Chicago City SC opened up the scoring in the ninth minute, charging into the box. Aurora goalkeeper Taylor Kane came up to make the play, but she was whistled for a foul. Sophia Jaime stepped up for the penalty kick and converted for 0-1. 

Minnesota Aurora found the equalizer in the 28th minute. Saige Wimes frustrated a Chicago player to draw the foul and subsequent yellow card. Giada Zhou took the free kick and served a ball straight to the head of Chambers to make the score 1-1. The goal is Chambers’ first with Aurora, coming in her debut for the team. 

Both teams came into the second half with voracity, setting the tone for a physical 45 minutes of play. 

In the 68th minute, City’s Eva Pattison was shown a yellow card for a tough tackle on Catherine Rapp, but Zhou’s shot from the free kick sailed over the bar. 

To close out the match, Minnesota Aurora hit the post. The opportunity lit a fire under Minnesota Aurora to send in a flurry of shots in the dwindling minutes of the match, but it wasn’t enough to find a second goal.
