Minnesota Aurora FC faces Sioux Falls City in midweek tilt

Uncategorized

EAGAN, Minn. – Minnesota Aurora FC, off to a 8-0-0 start in 2026, welcomes division foe Sioux Falls City FC for its penultimate home fixture of the season.

The match, the second meeting between the two in less than two weeks, kicks off at 7 PM.

Aurora enters the weekend on the heels of a 5-0 win at home vs. Edgewater Castle Friday, handing the Rooks their second defeat in their last three matches and moving Aurora 8 points clear of second place in the Heartland Division table. It also marked the second time in club history Aurora have opened 8-0-0 across their first seven fixtures.

The reigning four time Heartland Division champions are also off to their best defensive start to a season in club history, yet to surrender a goal in 2026 en route to eight straight clean sheets, setting a new club record for consecutive shutouts.

Aurora have only allowed two total goals over their last 990 minutes played at TCO Stadium. They are the only team left in the USL W League that has not conceded a goal this season.

The visitors from South Dakota, Sioux Falls City, come into Wednesday’s clash in second position in the division standing, fresh off a resounding 5-1 win over River Light FC in their last match. Directly after falling to Aurora FC 12 days ago, their first loss in 2026, they played to a 1-1 stalemate against RKC Third Coast.

Sioux Falls FC, who first joined the fold of the W League in 2025, have a long history of success, winning the 2024 Midwest Conference in the club’s final season in the Women’s Premier Soccer League (WPSL). This season, Sioux Falls are off to their best seven-match start in their brief W League history.

Coached by former Racing Louisville (NWSL) staffer and 2024 WPSL Coach of the Year Joe DeMay, Sioux Falls boasts a potent attack that features leading scorer Hailee Christensen, who paces the visitors with 6 goals. Keyera Harmon has chipped in 4 goals.

Former Aurora FC head coach Colette Montgomery, who led Aurora to the 2024 playoffs, is in her first season on DeMay’s staff in Sioux Falls.

News & Notes

Aurora are one of only four teams in the USL W League to hold a perfect record so far in 2026.

Forward Ai Kitagawa heads into Friday’s match in a three way tie for second place in the league’s Golden Boot race, awarded annually to the player with the most goals at season’s end. Aurora FC have never had a player finish atop the Golden Boot race.

With five more goals scored Tuesday, Aurora remained at the top of the Central Conference in goals scored this season. Aurora’s 27 total goals ranks 5th most in the USL W League.

They Said It

“They’re really well structured, really well-organized. We have to be mentally ready for them…to play them, have one game and then play them again, it’s a pretty quick back-to-back. It gives both teams a lot to think about.” – Aurora head coach Jen Larrick.
