Minnesota Aurora Sweeps Green Bay 5-1 and Roars into the Postseason Undefeated
Minnesota Aurora finished the regular season strong to secure an undefeated record heading into the playoffs. Aurora wasted no time showing Green Bay that the final game was not going to be easy. In the opening 42 seconds of play, Addy Symonds (two goals this season) made history of her own with the fastest Aurora goal scored. Morgan Turner netted the assist.
Turner (6 goals) continued to have a major impact scoring three goals for the first hat trick in Aurora history. Her first goal came in the 32nd minute while she managed to find the back of the net even while falling – a testament to her athleticism and skills as a forward. Her two other goals in the 51st and 61st minute were equally impressive. Turner has now five goals in the past three games.
“It says a lot about our team, how hard we came out in both games even though it doesn’t necessarily mean a lot for our playoff [standings],” said Turner. “Every game means something to us. We’re getting better and better and improve each game.”
Minnesota Aurora wasn’t able to maintain the shutout, and Green Bay Glory’s Skylar Prentice scored for 4-1 in the 68th minute.
Kristelle Yewah is the latest newcomer to the Aurora scorer’s list with her first career goal wearing the teal. Yewah assisted Turner’s third goal and hit the crossbar before finding the net in the 76th minute. Lydia Ruppert played a pass over the Green Bay Glory’s defensive line, and Yewah connected on a one-time shot to make the final score 5-1.
“What a great way to end our regular season, most goals we’ve ever scored in a game with five,” said Head Coach Nicole Lukic. “We’re proud of every player on this team. We’ve asked them to buy into this system and every single one of them has and they’ve been able to contribute. We’ve seen a lot of growth over the past 61 days.”
On July 13, Aurora returns home to TCO Stadium for the USL W League quarter final. Ticket information can be found at mnaurorafc.com.
